Gemmotherapy and sleep: the complete Herbalgem guide
Plant buds are harvested at a moment of intense growth and botanical activity. Herbalgem gemmotherapy is one approach used in the world of plant-based wellbeing — and remains relatively unfamiliar to the wider public.
What is gemmotherapy?
Gemmotherapy (from the Latin gemma, bud) uses plant buds and young shoots, harvested in spring before they open. At this stage, they contain a range of compounds such as vitamins, minerals, growth factors and phytohormones. A maceration process in water, alcohol and glycerine is used to preserve these components.
Modern gemmotherapy was developed in the 1950s by Dr Pol Henry in Belgium and later formalised by Dr Max Tétau under the name phytoembryotherapy. Unlike traditional herbalism, which uses mature leaves and roots, it focuses on growing tissues rich in meristems.
Gemmotherapy macerates are not medicines and clinical research remains limited. What is documented is that some plants used — including linden, hawthorn and fig — contain identified compounds studied in conventional herbalism. The idea that the gemmotherapy form is more concentrated remains an assumption requiring stronger direct evidence.
Why Herbalgem?
ONYRÊVE selected the Herbalgem Pro range after comparing several European manufacturers. Criteria included organic certification, cold maceration, 1DH concentration, a pharmacy and parapharmacy distribution network in Europe, and ingredient transparency.
Herbalgem macerates are distributed through more than 3,000 pharmacies in France. They are not presented as medicines, but as a recognised professional range of plant-based supplements.

Combining gemmotherapy and CBD
Some ONYRÊVE routines combine plant-based products and CBD, but different products can have different precautions and interactions. Any combination should be checked with a qualified professional.
- Herbalgem macerates — plant-based supplements used in a gradual routine.
- CBD — a separate cannabinoid product whose use should follow its label and the applicable legal framework.
- Magnesium bisglycinate — a nutritional supplement that should be used according to the label and individual needs.
There is no universal combination or immediate effect. Do not combine products as a substitute for medical advice, particularly when taking medication.
Precautions and contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consult a health professional before any course. We advise against self-medication.
- Anticoagulants: hawthorn may interact with some medicines. Medical advice is essential.
- Allergies: check the ingredient list, including alcohol and vegetable glycerine.
- Duration: follow the manufacturer’s instructions and do not extend a course without professional guidance.
- Children: products may contain traces of alcohol. Dosage and use must be decided by a professional.
Gemmotherapy macerates are food supplements, not medicines. They do not replace medical care for chronic or severe sleep problems. Ask a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
